Facing Saint-Tropez, the charming town of Sainte-Maxime is an
internationally-renowned resort. Ships can anchor in the bay and a tender is
provided to the town center harbor, with coaches scheduled for inland sightseeing
tours.
Sainte-Maxime was formerly a small fishing port, living off local trade
(olive oil, wood, cork, etc.). Its tourist industry really took off at the end of
19th century when magnificent villas, hotels and luxurious gardens sprung up all
over the town. The center is very lively, with many boutiques and arts & craft
shops opening well into the night during the Summer season. The daily Provençal
covered market offers a feast of local olives, honeys, fruit and vegetables,
spices and herbs. The small and attractive Casino, built in 1928, is a must
for gamblers!
Golfers will enjoy trying out the "Golf de Beauvallon" 18-hole course and "Golf de Ste. Maxime" 18-hole course. Harbor Master's Office:33 (0)4 94 96 74 25 Tourist Office: 33 (0) 4 94 55 75 55 |
