Visitors'pier on "plage du débarquement" beach.
The National Coastal Conservation Society recently bought up a section of La Croix Valmer's coastline known as "Cape Lardier"; this magnificent site's plant and animal life is now fully protected. It is a fabulous place to visit for botanists and bird lovers.
Legend tells that the Roman Emperor Constantine I, who was crossing in the region in 312 A.D., saw a cross shining in the sky, announcing his coming victory over his enemy Maxence. From that moment onwards, he became a fervent Christian. A stone cross was erected to commemorate this event by the "Domaine de la Croix" (literally "Domain of the Cross"!), one of the town's famous local vineyards.

It is now a delightful seaside resort with magnificent sandy beaches and is also appreciated for its excellent ''Côtes de Provence'' wines! The Provençal market with its sunny colors and aromas, held every Sunday morning, is a favorite meeting place for both locals and visitors.
